Give it up for pancake day!

Well as we all know today is Pancake day. That’s ‘Shrove Tuesday’ – no, not shove, although we all tend to force feed ourselves with these sugary little battered circles to the point of relentless nausea, so maybe SHOVE (as many as you can in your mouth) Tuesday would be more apt.

Anyway it is called ‘Shrove’ which comes from the old word ‘Shrive’ which means to confess.  Basically fess up on all your sins before tomorrow(this could take a while) because once you have force fed yourself with pancakes and anything else fattening and scrumptious you can get your hands on, it’s time to give it up for Lent.  When I say give something up I mean for a long time  – Forty whole days in fact.  That’s 6 weeks.  I can’t stick to anything for that long!  So, I have given this some serious thought and come to the conclusion that I’m going to give up my diet of healthy eating. Maybe I can spur all those others who have been mercilessly eating cottage cheese and iceberg to give it all up in the name of the Lord!  Lets eat pancakes and mars bars for 40 days!  Big Macs and cookie dough dynamo and proper English fry-ups. YUM!  Are you with me?

Ok, not really, I have to be serious. I’ve never really sacrificed for the sake of anything so I’m going to give it a try. I thought about giving up my iphone but then I gave myself a sharp slap across the face – I’m NOT taking it that seriously!  Chocolate?  Supposed to be doing that anyway.  Alcohol? may cause serious stress of global proportions for everyone around me (Jesus wouldn’t like that) Swearing? no, would have to stop driving-not practical.  Moaning? wouldn’t be able to write blog, talk to friends etc – unhealthy.  So I have decided to give up impatient behaviour and try and be patient for 6 weeks. Yes, yes you might well be laughing out loud!  Don’t get me wrong, this is a long shot but I’m going to be a patient little saint for 40 whole days.  Please, if you know me, do not try and antagonise me or force me into an argumentative situation or my failing will be on your head!  Please make way, for patience is my new virtue and virtuous is I (well from tomorrow anyway…)
