I’ve only got one thing to tell you and that thing has teeth…
The thing is, I’ve been ever so busy, up and down, in and out, round the bend, you know how it can be sometimes. I’ve just come back from London town and the thing about going to the capital is that you try and do a lot because there’s a lot to do.
My friend and I had booked tickets to go and see the Frida Khalo exhibition at the Tate Modern. We were trying to book other things to do on our weekend stay but a cream tea at the Ritz for £84.00 seemed a little excessive. You can buy 207 fruit scones for that and make a gazillion cream teas. Sometimes you have to take stock of a thing.
But that’s not what I want to talk to you about, the thing I want to talk about has a bit of drama…
Talking of drama, we both decided to go and see Thelma and Louise at the Young Vic.
Spur of the moment decision. We nipped in and asked if there were any tickets free that night and it just so happened there were two right in the middle . Or that’s what they tell everyone as a sales ploy. That’s what I’d do.
Before that we had a steak at the Flat Iron with a couple of cocktails to soak in the Thelma and Louise vibe. After dinner they give you a token to get an ice-cream. The token happens to be a shiny, silver, tiny meat cleaver. You have to give it to the server to get your cornet. Thing is, I wanted to keep my teeny, tiny, shiny meat cleaver because I liked it and I have never had a fear of asking for what I want. To prove this I can show you a picture of me on a policeman’s bike in Colorado, cos I asked.
“We don’t normally give them away,” said the waiter wringing his hands.
“There’s always a first time. Come on, you know you want to…”
Anyway, we both got another little cleaver so we could keep the first one and give the second one to the ice cream man.
But no. Now I’d got two of them in my mitts, I saw the future me wearing a pair of rather snazzy meat cleaver earrings. They would go so well with my emergency clown nose. There was no way I was giving the second one back.
My friend gave hers in, dropped it into the slot as directed, and got an ice-cream. I pretended to do the same then made a fuss, then pretended I didn’t want an ice- cream, then dropped my bag, then asked for a napkin, then said I did want an ice-cream after all. This is called befuddling someone so they forget about the meat cleaver. This miniscule scale of hoodwinking on my part gave me great joy and I apologised to karma.
Not that this is what I wanted to talk to you about, the thing I want to talk to you about makes a meat cleaver look tame…
We went to the theatre and as we went to take our seats, the usher said, “The show is 2 hours 20 minutes long with a break halfway”
I inwardly groaned and felt the onset of mild panic. I am not a sit still for a long time kind of person. That seemed like an excessive amount of time to behave. Thankfully, they let you take a glass of wine in so that killed 5 minutes.
Turns out that I never noticed the time because the show was so good I could have watched it all over again!
We came out and went for a burger cos we could.
There’s a lot of meat going on here but the meat I want to talk to you about is on a different level…
The next day we went to see Frida and all the Frida extras that had absolutely nothing to do with Frida. We were exhausted. Walking slowly around a museum for hours is weirdly energy sapping and reading about every thing starts to hurt my eyes after a hundred pieces. I think I might have an attention disorder. Has anyone else noticed?
Next stop, Borough Market and Granary Square. Food for all and visual madness for monkey brains. There were so many people I got overwhelmed. The big city is fun and exciting but I like space better.
Anyway, I’ve been really busy making art for others and I’ve also released my second painting in the Little Wild Things collection which comes out weekly.
But the fun one, and the thing that I wanted to talk to you about is the challenge that is set monthly in my art group which is ready to be judged this week. The challenge is “Underwater”
A friend of mine there has painted a beautiful turtle swimming through coral. I know this because she’s been sharing her work and putting it up in the WhatsApp group as she goes through the different stages. It’s a stunning piece and she is a wonderful painter.
But, I just can’t help myself.
I’ve painted a piece to complement it called,
‘Now Where’s That Turtle?”
I hope she likes it.
