Oh feel free to disclose embarrassing details of the private lives of people who live in your village here on your blog. We can be trusted to keep the secrets delivered Soto voce over a pint or five. (Wink)

Am a bit late to the party here. Had intended to send you the following link, but got distracted and forgot. Anyhoo, Our oldest son showed an early talent for drawing. Along about fourth grade, he did a simple bust drawing of Arnold Schwarzenegger's terminator character, and just nailed it. His drawing passion is reproducing an existing image, and then adding his own style/inspiration, using only pencils and shading.

Word got out in the SEAL community, and more than one copy of his drawing of Michael Monsoor hangs in SEAL residence. A copy is also aboard the USS Michael Monsoor (DDG-1001).

Just for the record, he draws in his spare time. His day job is assistant superintendent with this outfit --

Yes, I am a dad and yes, I am bragging.

Yes, your son’s art is very good, great drawing skills. I hope he does well.

I get this, bigtime. Decades ago when photography was done with silver nitrates, smelly chemicals and dim yellow lights, there was nothing to compare to the thrill of watching a photo slowly appear on a blank sheet of white paper floating in the developer tray. That level of photographic magic will never be experienced by folks whose experience is limited to digital.

Totally agree, Roger! That’s definitely witnessing the magic! I think the process is just as important as the final result!

Great artwork today. Love the oranges. As to the pub. It’s a small village. It’s Wednesday. You’ve been the gossip all week. Now the weekend is upcoming. Another chance to add to next week’s gossip. Eat more bacon.

Jules Smith's avatar

Thank you, Al! I like the oranges too - warm and soft.

I'll see if I can keep up the popularity stakes!

Every morning I bacon myself into the day!

I love all of your art. I have done a couple of dogs recently. I find them challenging but far easier than cats.

Jules Smith's avatar

Ahhh, thank you, Nancy! That's so lovely.

You're good at animals. I think I'm better at people.

I would agree! Although my teacher has been pushing us to do more people. With faces, even.

Jules Smith's avatar

That probably didn’t read right, I don’t mean I’m better at people than you, I mean I’m better at people than I am at dogs. But anything like that I think I prefer to be a bit more sketchy with rather than absolutely getting it spot on.

writing is my medication.........well that and a couple Vanquish a day...

that dog is one of my favorites you've done. I love his smile. his eyes are like two spiral galaxies.

all artists are basically self-taught. sure you take influences and lessons from the artists you liked who came before but when it comes down to it, it's you doing it in your own voice.

It really is medication, isn't it!

A lot of people like him! I find it very interesting the things that people like best.

That's so very true. How wise. *)
