1) A simple manual open, solid black. Also doubles as my souvenir from my R&R trip to London in 1976 while stationed in West Germany. If anyone asks (rarely) I tell them it's my "Triple B", British Black Brolly. It now hangs retired in my closest.
2) A slightly smaller compact, non-collapsible with push-button open, solid forest green. I inherited it from my late father.
3) Large size, manual open, again solid black. I too prefer this size, although one must be mindful of stiff breezes. Purchased some years back at Walmart, so you can guess where it was made. Here in Texas, it has also proven most useful for shade, sitting field side watching our five year old grandson play soccer. The hold open latch has become unreliable, so I will be shopping for a replacement, hopefully in solid green or blue.
1) very simple, classic, Bond style. Very streets of London. A perfect souvenir.
2) Forest green. Most classiest of colours. Looks great on a Jag or Aston Martin. Your father had taste.
3) I too am a fan of the gigantic brolly. It serves many a purpose but like you say, a stiff breeze might see you floating off to California. Though I don't ever remember meeting a stiff breeze in Texas in all my years visiting. I think blue or green is a good colour - keep it very Farrow and Ball. I like your style. Appreciate the visit!
My Mary Poppins aversion means I don't do umbrellas.
Ears continue to get bigger as we age (thanks to gravity), which makes me feel sorry for Alexander Armstrong, who already sports an impressive pair of flappers. Judging from that picture though, Nanny Assante may need to get a telegram from the King before his ears reach normal size.
I have a rainbow umbrella. No brollys here in Amerka. But then again, we rarely need one in San Diego (she says, tempting fate, as the most severe El Niño is on the way).
What do you say to those people who don’t own an umbrella? Asking for a friend. I could ask what your choice of daily carry knife or handgun says about you… and I will on VM. I do own an umbrella, Jules. It’s in my suitcase and it’s one of those little collapsed models…obviously I am not compensating. I don’t think I’ve ever opened it.
These days when I travel, the driver brings the car to the vestibule and opens the door for me so I’m neither hot, cold or wet… it’s how I roll.
I say, don’t be ridiculous as it’s another form of attack.
I also carry other things that I can’t mention.
A compact umbrella for periodic occasions suggests to me that you like to be armed like a quiet man. The sort that might have a .38 stuck down his boots or a razor blade in his cap. It says, don’t underestimate me.
Yeah, well I’m the sort that will be found hiding behind the wet tree, dripping with rage when you’re not looking. Or, boldly heading your way with a bright yellow covering.
okay that second umbrella is LITERALLY Doctor Who's umbrella.
I used to carry around umbrellas all the time in the '80s. then my best friend Lucio told me umbrellas were useless, they just make you lose a hand, it's better to put on a raincoat with a hoodie and have your two hands free.
What do my umbrellas say about me? No idea.

Interesting brolly choices, sir!

It’s pointless talking to me about Alexander Armstrong.
Nanny’s ears, I’ve noticed are the same length as his nose which is correct. Is it his nose that is the issue or is it his ears?
Let’s talk umbrellas. Mary Poppins is awesome and her brolly can fly.

I too have a rainbow umbrella and it’s massive. I particularly like that fact as it makes people avoid me.
Well, we’ve had such little rain that my brollys felt redundant.
Yes, let’s see what happens there. Hopefully nothing too dramatic.

If I lived in Old Blighty I’d wear a Peaky Blinders cap…
I know.
your umbrella says you are positively ducky.

I have BIG ears, what does that say about me?...
*)
It certainly says I’m not going quietly.
It is totes the Dr Who umbrella. You got me. Don’t tell anyone.
Lucio is wrong. It is better to have two hands and a weapon and, if necessary, a boat when opened.
It says you can hear a lot. Like the Tardis coming. *)
