Golden Days

In the grand tapestry of life, it’s the seemingly insignificant threads that often hold the most enchanting beauty. Those small, subtle strokes are the ones that paint substance on the canvas of our hearts and souls. Like an unassuming melody in a symphony, these moments play a crucial role in orchestrating the concert of our lives.

After a gruelling day at work, when the weight of everything has settled heavily on your shoulders, there’s an unparalleled solace in knowing that as you turn the key in the lock, a warm, welcoming home awaits. The comforting embrace of familiarity wraps around you, dispelling the weariness and offering sanctuary from the outside world.

In the gentle glow of home, the company of a happy dog transforms ordinary arrivals into extraordinary experiences. Big brown eyes sparkle with unconditional love, a reminder that no matter how turbulent the day has been, their loyalty remains steadfast; a beacon of consistency in a world of change.

And then, there’s the cold pale ale, perhaps waiting patiently in the fridge. A small indulgence, a toast to surviving yet another day and a reminder that contentment often lies in savouring the simple pleasures. And what better to accompany it than a stack of fluffy pancakes, generously drizzled with Lyle’s Golden Syrup—a taste of childhood nostalgia and a dash of sweetness in an adult world.

As the night descends, the flickering light of a film dances across the room. It’s not just a movie; it’s an escape, a journey to different worlds, a story that transports you beyond the confines of your norm. Sharing this experience with another amplifies its magic, turning a solitary time into a memory, a silent understanding of togetherness.

The collective essence of these small moments is what keeps the heart beating, the spirit soaring, and the mind pushing forward. They are the patches of sunlight that break through the darkness, the gentle pats on the back when the road gets tough. In these unassuming fragments of life, we find the motivation to keep walking, to keep dreaming, and to keep cherishing the golden path of the journey. After all, it’s these things that remind us of the profound beauty that exists in the simplicity of being alive.

When times are hard, a dog will snuggle, offer a lick, and share your turmoil or sadness. The retrievers are especially good at that, but almost all dogs that aren’t feral will work hard to please you. It’s their charm.

Cats are the opposite. They want you to work hard to please them.

True that about cats, but if you are consistently and reliably kind to a cat, it will develop a loyalty to you that is on par with that of many dogs. And some will eventually learn to come when called. This is more true for male cats than it is for females, who seem to prefer the standoff stance regardless of the ministrations of their humans.
I say all this as one who has shared our home with several of each species.

You have to prove your worth to a kitty!
I used to have a ginger tabby that you could rock to sleep like a baby.

A dog loves you no matter what. A cat will give you the cold shoulder if you get the wrong food.

that’s the most beautiful Golden Retriever I’ve ever seen!!! that’s Henry the Golden Retriever that is.

it’s true, the ONLY TWO THINGS that gets one through life each and every day are animals and alcohol.

speaking of pancake syrup, for two weeks during the ’80s I thought Mrs. Butterworth was my mother, I had to go see a special doctor for that.

Drawn dogs are always the cutest because they’re a bit wonky!

Treacle on Yorkshire pudding. That’s the past and the future! *)
